Not sure if you are all aware but there is a rogue artist that goes by The Decapitator who has been terrorizing London billboard advertisements and even newspapers. His form of street art involves replacing heads with gruesome stumps!

Just someone else doing his own thing.

Sometimes the Things You Hate are the Things You Love.

Downtown Sag Harbor NY on Memorial day.

Sag Harbor is a small town, somewhat of a summer or weekend getaway for some people. Recently it has become a bit of a second home for me. There are a lot of connotations that come along with a small town, the gossip, everyone knowing everything about every body else… but along with that there is a certain camaraderie and settling that happens when you find a place like this. The way people care for one another and go out of their way to help each other in this town has been remarkable to me.

Saturday was spent traveling, and on Sunday I was awoken at 7am to go for a run that ended up clocking in at around 5 miles. Needless to say I wasn’t much use the rest of the day, but there was lots of good food and talks to be had with family and friends, found a new store in LABL that we might be getting into, and to cap off the day we went to the beach to watch the sunset. This morning was another early rise but no run because I’m still recovering just a bit. There was a parade that marched through the town and again good BBQ to be had. My diet certainly has suffered a little bit this holiday weekend.

Places like this are hard to find, sometimes we get caught up in the boredom or whatever it is we think is ailing us and put the blame on our environment, but things are what we make them. There can be good out of every situation if we want to see it.

A town like this reminds me of Pyknic in many ways and bigger corporations I can equate to cities where the hustle and bustle can almost be overwhelming at times and more important things like caring about others can get lost or forgotten. We all have goals… it seems that in this day too many people are willing to sacrifice their morals and ideals trying to get the crown. Stay true to yourself and be accountable, tell the people you love, how much you care and do it often! - kYle

P.S. If you haven’t heard the new Deathcab For Cutie album its worth checking out!

Revival of the Bicycle

I’m not sure if it’s just me but seems that in 2008 it is really uncommon to see bicycles besides the occasional “Lance Armstrong” wannabe on the road with no shoulder. Well the other day, I decided to same some initiative to change that. I took out the Mongoose BMX bike that I received on my 16th birthday from the garage and inflated its tires for a long overdue ride.

In an age where everyone’s first to get in line for a trendy canvas bag that proclaims their “pro-green” stance, hypocritically they are not finding other ways to take care of the environment. Bike are rad… they are great exercise and they do not pollute the atmosphere. With the current gas prices, it is the best way to travel!

Most importantly, what is better than reliving your childhood? I felt like I was a kid again. My dad came out to advise my inflation of the tires and along with my mom, they both watched me get back into the swing of riding a bike again. It brought back a lot of childhood memories that I shared with my family and smiles to both of their faces.

From CA Back to PA :(

After catching 16 hours of rest last night, I decided I’d briefly update you with the rest of went on during our California trip… of course not everything because as they say, “What happens in ________, stays in ________.”

After waking up gnarly early Saturday morning, we were able to piece together a pretty rad booth if I say so myself.

dgr2.jpg

Met up with our good friends, Danger Radio, who played their set with some new Pyknic threads!

dgr3.jpg

evaveline.jpg

This long line began 45 minutes prior to the Every Avenue signing. Some dedicated and epic fans for sure!

everyave1.jpg

And some cool dudes as well! Check out Every Avenue.

br3.jpg

Brighten stopped by as well to meet and greet their fans.

nigs.jpg

Although uber-tired, the boys still posing for shots.

ross1.jpg

On Day 2, everyone’s favorite Punk Radio DJ, DJ Rossstar, stopped by for a signing.

rara.jpg

And we met up with Sarah or “Rah-Rah”, who showed us some California hospitality! The girl’s a total sweetheart.

crew.jpg

Carolyn and Paulina are two of the raddest chicks for sure. They were at the table next to us but we’re constants at the PYKNIC tent. We all truly had some serious chill seshes and they proved that NorthCal can be, well, O.K. ha. These girls can danceeeeee too. So above is a picture with our girlfrennnns.

pepperdine.jpg

So on Monday we arrive at the airport as the plane is taking off. Continental was nice enough to let us board at 11:00 pm to make up for our late arrival. After calling our Cali contacts in our phonebooks to no avail, we decided to rent a hundred and twenty dollar Dodge Charger for seven hours! We were going to make the best of the day so we headed up to Malibu.

Malibu is one of the most beautiful places by far. Above is a view from on top a hill at Pepperdine University, probably the best campus on earth.

nigs3.jpg

After hitting up Howdy’s Mexican Food, where we spotted many beautiful cars and women, we went to the Santa Monica Pier. We watched the NCAA finals and posed for this last picture. I can speak for all of us when I say we really miss California and it’s fine food, chill times, beautiful atmosphere, weather, palm trees, women, etc etc. I am glad I got to spend time taking it all in with my best buds.

Never forget a sunset.

From California with Love

Posted under PYKNIC by admin on Saturday 5 April 2008

Today was hella busy and a lot of driving! We had to pick up stuff we had shipped out to California as well as other recently printed pieces from our printer. With the gnarly traffic, this was no easy task and basically most of our day was consumed in the car. Good thing we like each other and that we had the Black Nate cd pumping some beats.

Another stop on our fast-food tour landed us at In-N-Out Burger, one of my favorites for sure. ..
img00049.jpg

A 7-up (which is no longer offered in most establishments now), a Double-Double, and “Animal Style” Fries (Secret MENU!!) later, this is all that was left…

img00050.jpg

Then the rest of our time was spent organizing the clothes and working on last minute details to ensure a good event. I cannot even get to my bed with all the boxes and other setup in here!

img00058.jpg

Just a sneak peek of what we’ll have tomorrow, east coast you are missing out!!

img00056.jpg

After taking a trip down the Coast Highway to spend some time in Hobie Surf Shop in Laguna, we decided to go grab some grub at the famous Chimayo’s at the Beach right under the Huntington pier. To our parents, rest assured that we are eating well! As you can see, the food at Chimayo’s is epic. Kyle had the lamb…

img00060.jpg

This trip has been a lot of fun thus far and I’m glad to be here with my three amigos. I’d get deep but I’ll spare you, ha. We’re holding it down for the East Coast for sure, spreading that love.

img00061.jpg

Sleep well and I’ll let you know how day 1 goes tomorrow. Wish us luck and if you decide to stop by the tent, say hello!

Sunset and Hollywood… and David Spade

Posted under PYKNIC by admin on Friday 4 April 2008

So today we woke up to Kyle ironing his dress shirts in preparation for our appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel. Ok, maybe we weren’t guests, per say, but we were supposed to be part of the live nationally televised audience!

img00032.jpg

We all went out to Huntington Beach, where we spent a week of our 2007 summer for the U.S. Open of Surfing, and relived some of our glories at Jack’s and Surf and Sport. Nothing like lunch at Wahoo’s Fish Taco… Banzai Burrito ftw!

Then around 3 we left for Kimmel. A trip north to the City of Angels ended up being a couple hour ride. The traffic out here is insane at all hours and we were even in the car pool lane. We ended up skipping out on Kimmel and on our walk down Hollywood Blvd. Kyle met up with aspiring rapper, Black Nate. The man was really dogmatic about us giving a listen and Kyle was the only one to give-in since he’s part of “Team Love” and has not been subject to much street hustle in Upstate NY.  Of course he ended up being forced into buying a CD…

img00042.jpg

Then on the way we saw our mans Johnny Depp’s star…

img00045.jpg

For dinner we ate at the Dolce Group’s “Ketchup”. I was very impressed by the restaurant that had a great atmosphere and lounge. We ate a couple tables away from David Spade! The food was delectable and I enjoyed how they managed to keep a ketchup theme, similar to what picnics are to us.

Sorry about the lack of pictures, I am still getting used to my blackberry and haven’t got all the settings right!

California Day Uno

Posted under PYKNIC by admin on Wednesday 2 April 2008

Today we took off from Philly en route to California for Bamboozle Left. We were running late but just managed to board our plane before it took off. So it was group decision to refresh with a Heineken…

img00020.jpg

Or more… ha.

img00021.jpg

When you’re 3,400 feet high in the sky for a few hours you get stir crazy.

img00027.jpg

Besides the palm trees and crazy traffic, we realized we were in California when we all sunk our teeth into six dollar burgers at Carl’s Jr. They don’t make burgers like this on the East Coast.

img00029.jpg

Check out my burger… The Six Dollar Jalapeño Burger that was a whopping 1030 calories! I thought I’d balance it with a side of fried zucchini. I feel like I’m getting fatter just sitting here writing this.

img101.jpg

Anyways, we’ll be on here updating all of you with our trip as we go on. Should have some radical stuff to show off tomorrow!
